Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Employment and Social Enterprise is responsible for overseeing the delivery of youth employment services and social enterprise strategy at Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU).  The position oversees the delivery of youth employment and social enterprises services, developing and implementing business plans, liaising with community partners and funders, and creating community awareness of employment services and social enterprises at YOU.  As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Employment and Social Enterprise will be involved in a range of strategic planning and internal initiatives.

The Director of Employment and Social Enterprise plays a critical role in partnering with the Senior Leadership Team in strategic decision making and operations as YOU continues to enhance its Service Delivery Model.  This position prepares reports for internal and external audiences on programs that highlight accomplishments during the report period, compare results to target, identify any issues needing follow up, and note action plans.  The Director of Employment and Social Enterprise represents YOU to funders, community partners and other supporters for YOU programming, and acts as a champion change-agent to YOU’s wrap around model.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement social enterprise and employment strategy that aligns with organizations mission, vision, and values.
  • Develop business plans and funding proposals in collaboration with Managers and others to support operating plans for employment and social enterprise programs. 
  • Create structured systems/processes across social enterprises for participant file management, contracts, onboarding & training of youth participants 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including employees, customers and community partners. 
  • Ensure lateral integration of employment and social enterprise programs to promote positive and meaningful employment experiences for youth.
  • Establish program budgets and approve expenses 
  • Set standards for quality control/quality assurance on all products and services.
  • Ensure that all employment and social enterprise programs comply with relevant laws, regulations, agency and health and safety policies.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with social enterprise activities / initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • This position requires completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in business management or related field.  
  • 5 – 10 years of business management experience in a senior leadership role, managing direct reports, small- and large-sized teams functioning in multiple locations. 
  • Experience building relationships, managing multiple lines of business and driving strategic planning business growth and transformation.
  • In-depth knowledge and demonstrated expertise in people and culture; experience in a values-driven organization is an asset.
  • Extensive experience with organizational requirements for job postings, critical soft / hard skillsets, resumes / cover letter review, job search, screening / interviewing and performance reviews.
  • Previous experience working in the woodworking, construction or trades sector would be considered an asset. 
  • Previous experience working in the food and beverage industry would be considered an asset. 
  • Previous experience mentoring and / or coaching youth
