YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange (SWSE)

Are you interested in travel, participating in meaningful work, and have a desire to experience new things this summer? The YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange (SWSE) is a six-week program that offers youth ages 16-17 the opportunity to:

1. Travel to an area of Canada where your second official language is spoken
2. Gain valuable work experience in having a full-time paid summer job in the public sector or with a non-profit organization.
3. Stay with a host family
4. Participate in exciting program activities
5. Explore and immerse yourself in a new community
6. Learn and practice your second official language (French or English)
7. Make new friends and have fun!

Applications are open for our next summer exchange program, running from June 28 to August 9, 2025, for youth in London, ON and across Ontario.

To register for the program, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

✦ Be 16 or 17 years old at the start of the program
✦ Live in Canada and be eligible to work in Canada
✦ Your family must be able to host a youth from another community during the exchange — but if this is a barrier, let us know and we will work with you to find a solution.
✦ Must be enthusiastic and excited to try new things, learn and grow!

The program registration fee is just $200, and the program covers the cost of travel to and from the host community and expenses related to activities run by a Local Coordinator. If this fee presents a barrier to a youth’s ability to participate, please let us know and we will work to find a solution.
