Reporting to the Youth Wellness Hub Team Leader, the Violence Prevention Program Facilitator, will be responsible for developing the curriculum, supporting Violence Prevention Peer Navigators delivering workshops and presentations to community agencies, and schools, and engaging youth in programming through the Youth Wellness Hub London-Middlesex. The presentations delivered will focus on areas such as: addressing risk factors that may result in a young person engaging in gun and gang activity, identifying positive pro-social spaces for youth to access, and supporting Violence Prevention Peer Facilitators who will share their lived experience through presentations. The Violence Prevention Program Facilitator arranges all related workshop activities such as the preparation of workshop materials, room bookings, coordination of community partners, and preparation for Violence Prevention Peer Facilitator presentations. Qualified candidates possess a proven ability to teach and mentor youth, possess exceptional communication and leadership skills, have an understanding of the risk factors associated with gang recruitment, and demonstrate values that match our corporate vision, values, and mission statement: “A community where youth are embraced and will thrive”.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Facilitate interactive, informative, and engaging gang prevention workshops.
- Engage Violence Prevention Peer Facilitator in programming and services; including onboarding, ongoing mentoring, and support with sharing of their stories.
- Engage youth, and community partners in the evaluation of workshops to ensure training material meets the learning styles and the needs of a youth demographic.
- Develop and revise program material, based on feedback and evaluation information.
- Support participants in connecting with community-based resources and positive spaces.
- Prepare reports, gather statistics, and conduct post-training follow-ups.
- Coordinate community partners to serve as guest speakers.
- Create a positive, supportive, and dynamic learning environment that contributes to improving outcomes for participants.
- Supports collaboration efforts through attending networking events, and facilitating community presentations/events.
- Direct client engagement will take place during programming and workshops. This is not a case management position.
Qualifications:
- University Degree or minimum 2-year College Diploma in human /social services/education from an accredited institution, teaching or facilitation certification.
- Minimum of 2 years experience working with a diverse population, including persons from diverse cultural backgrounds, LGBTQ2S groups, and youth.
- Experience facilitating workshops and presentations to youth.
- Proven ability to teach and mentor youth to overcome barriers.
- Experience preparing reports and gathering statistics.
- Experience liaising with community agencies in a professional manner.
- Prior experience working with a diverse population, including persons from diverse cultural backgrounds, LGBTQ2S.
- Ability to balance supporting participants in need of immediate assistance, while handling multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
- Experience working with youth affected by poverty, mental health, justice, addictions, and homelessness an asset.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365 as well as other software programs are required.
- Suicide Prevention, Crisis Intervention, and Prevention Training (PMAB or CPI) is an asset.
- Flexibility in scheduling to meet program needs including evenings and weekends.
